This course serves as a next step following French Wine Essentials (not a pre-requisite).
Suited for individuals who have completed WSET Level 3 and are pursuing advanced certifications, such as the WSET Diploma (or JSA qualifications like Sommelier, Wine Expert, or Excellence).
The"French Wine Scholar"is a wine certification offered by the WSG (Wine Scholar Guild), which has partner schools in 130 countries around the world.
This qualification was developed with support from the French Ministry of Agriculture and sets the industry standard as the most in-depth and comprehensive certification program devoted entirely to the wines of France. It covers French wine law, grape varieties, viticulture, winemaking techniques, and all of France’s wine-producing regions. It provides a comprehensive study of each French wine region and AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée), including historical background, geological and topographical features, and the effects of climate on wines. Tailored for dedicated wine aficionados and industry professionals, the FWS is your passport to understanding the nuanced appellations, viticultural marvels, art of winemaking, historic landmarks and rich traditions that make French wine a global benchmark.

WSET® Diploma (Level4)Graduated from Rivesaltes, France, School of AgricultureChampagne Master LevelBurgundy Master LevelBordeaux Master LevelSouth of France Master LevelJudge: Asia Wine Trophy & Japan Wine Challenge.Movie Navigator of Vin Japonais – the story of Nihon Wine.Movie Navigator of Memories of the Japanese vine.Meet Frédéric Cayuela, a Frenchman based in Tokyo who is, more than anything, a friendly and passionate wine instructor.Born in Roussillon, Frédéric has worked for about 15 years in the wine industry.Despite being early in his wine journey and during his four-year stay in Japan, he has developed a flourishing career in both the International and Japanese wine scenes. He graduated from Rivesaltes School of Agriculture in France and holds the Diploma WSET Level 4. In addition to his WSET level 1, 2, 3 and French Wine Scholar teachings at the Academie du Vin, Frédéric works for the most esteemed names in the wine world. Full-time account manager for Berry Bros. & Rudd, movie navigator, international master classes and wine judge; all these activities rhythm Frédéric’s exciting daily wine life. With four Master Levels achieved – Champagne, Burgundy, Bordeaux and South of France – and 20 other international certifications, the tremendous Master of Wine title is now set as Frédéric's ultimate life goal.「What led you to become a wine educator?」As a teenager, my grandfather made me try a little wine, although very diluted in much water. My inexperienced palate didn’t like it; however, I was still amazed by these "drops of god".So, when I was only 14 years old, I decided to do my first grape harvests, during which I discovered the passion and the love for grape growth and the science behind winemaking. Before settling in Japan, I worked for several wine estates as a wine merchant, consultant, and educator in France, and… far from my hometown and Japan: in Taiwan and Singapore. After so many experiences, pursuing my teaching career became inevitable and a life goal.「What is your approach to teaching wine?」Being a wine instructor is a way to communicate, socialize and share with others without artifice. In vino veritas, and after all, wine is simply a kind of language and another form of art expression. My teaching experience and my students' high pass rate made me realize that lecture content alone wasn’t fully integrated unless accompanied by a hint of communication and crunchy anecdotes to consolidate their knowledge.Honestly, nothing is more pleasant than observing my students’ enthusiasm and engaging communication during my lectures. This makes me even more passionate and eager to share more about my wine experience and my native and other wine regions.
